CONCEPTSHIKAKU, a term in Japanese embodying ‘four square’ (四角), ‘visual’ (視覚), ‘optic angle’ (視角) and ‘blind spot’ (死角), serves as a homophone, delving into these ideas to immerse audiences in sound-reactive lighting landscapes during Miami Art Week in 2013.
Unique "Seeing Sound" Experience
SHIKAKU08 offers a distinctive encounter of "seeing sound," intricately synchronizing visual effects with audio elements. This immersive blend captivates viewers, providing a dynamic fusion of sight and sound.
Dynamic Illumination with Cubic Structures
The installation features square structures resembling cubes illuminated by LED lights and mirrored boxes. These elements generate unexpected cubic patterns within the darkened space, surprising and enchanting viewers with their mesmerizing effect.
Surprising Light and Sound Experiences
Unexpected encounters unfold as viewers engage with SHIKAKU08, where exposure to intense LED lights yields unforeseen afterimages. These elements heighten the sensory experience, adding intrigue and excitement to the installation.
Concept of the Hidden Forest
Crafted around the theme of a hidden forest, SHIKAKU08 incorporates a 2-way mirror cube resembling a rock adorned with LED light strips resembling trees. These lights react dynamically to surrounding sounds, creating a captivating visual forest that illuminates solely in response to viewer-generated audio cues.
User Interaction
As viewers explore SHIKAKU08, they encounter an interactive environment where their actions trigger dynamic responses in light and sound. Each sound generated by the audience contributes to the evolving visual landscape, fostering a sense of active participation and engagement.
