CONCEPTSEI06 embodies a harmonious fusion of art and technology, drawing inspiration from the multifaceted meanings of the Japanese word SEI.
As a homophone, SEI resonates with connotations of Star’ (星), ‘Silent’ (静), and ‘Live’ (生), when translated into Chinese characters. These diverse meanings serve as the foundation for the installation's shape, pattern, and interactive elements, resulting in a captivating exploration of light, color, and movement.
Symbolism of "SEI"
Rooted in the symbolic richness of SEI the installation embodies a spectrum of meanings that transcend language and culture. These nuances inform every aspect of SEI06, from its shape and color palette to its dynamic interaction with viewers, inviting participants to engage in a playful and immersive experience.
Dynamic Interaction
SEI06 captivates viewers with its dynamic response to movement, gracefully shifting colors and shapes in response to the audience's presence. This interactive element adds an element of spontaneity and playfulness to the installation, inviting viewers to become active participants in shaping their sensory experience.
Prismatic Imagery
The stacked triangles of SEI06 evoke both star forms and the shape of a prism. As white light passes through a prism, it refracts, separating into its constituent colors to create a vibrant rainbow. This imagery symbolizes the transformative power of light and color, inviting viewers to contemplate the beauty and complexity of the natural world.
Artistic Evolution
SEI06 represents the latest iteration in the SEI series, building upon the conceptual groundwork laid by previous installations. Conceived as an integral part of the MI and GO projects, SEI06 continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression and technological innovation, reflecting the ongoing evolution of the SEI artistic vision.
Artistic Genesis
SEI06 emerged from the creative incubator of the Paseo Project Artist in Residence program in Taos, New Mexico, in 2022. This collaborative environment provided fertile ground for the development of SEI's artistic vision, paving the way for the creation of SEI06 and its predecessors.
Funding and Technical Support
The realization of SEI06 was made possible through generous funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and technical support from industry leaders such as Madmapper and Garagecube. Their contributions were instrumental in bringing SEI06 to life and ensuring its success as a transformative art installation.

SEI06 is the sixth installation in the SEI series. It was conceived as an integral part of both the MI and GO projects, which were first developed in 2022 at the Paseo Project Artist in Residence program in Taos, New Mexico.
